The topping-out ceremony for the new Park Innovaare building in Villigen was celebrated on 24 September 2021, and this also marks the halfway point of the construction period: the groundbreaking ceremony took place in November 2019, and the innovation campus is scheduled to be ready for occupation by the end of 2023. The construction is being carried out by the total contractor Erne AG.

The Innovation Campus is an extension of the existing Innovaare Park, which currently has its offices and laboratories on the site of the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI. 17 companies are active here and are developing technologies ranging from early cancer detection and space applications to high-tech sensors.

The new building will provide a total of 38,000 sqm of space for industrial companies, which will then be able to work door to door with PSI scientists. The institute is the main tenant of the Innovation Campus, it will rent around 65 % of the office and laboratory space for its own needs. The campus will contain various offices, a coworking space, vibration-free and temperature-stable research laboratories and various clean rooms. (ah)
