After a long planning phase, the Pilatus Arena project has now been given the green light: The city of Kriens (LU) has issued the building permit for the sports hall and the shell development. The project comprises a 4,000-seat event arena and two commercial and residential buildings with a total of 370 rental and owner-occupied apartments as well as office and commercial space.

The Pilatus Tower with 165 condominiums and the sports and event hall is being built by Pilatus Arena AG with Halter AG Lucerne as majority shareholder. Helvetia Insurance is the developer of the rental apartment building on Mattenplatz. The entire facility is being built by Halter. According to Pilatus Arena AG, the total investment amounts to over CHF 200 million.

The development plan was approved by the people of Kriens in 2021, and the building application was submitted in the same year. According to the city of Kriens, almost all objections received in connection with the planning application have been settled amicably. The two remaining objections were rejected by the city council in the first instance. The building permit will come into force after a 20-day appeal period has expired. It is still unclear whether one of the two objectors, the Archicultura Foundation, will file an appeal, local media write. (ah)
