Eastern Switzerland: Coworking spaces for the region

Three coworking spaces are to be created in Herisau, Teufen and Trogen in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden (AR). The initiator of the project is the Regio Appenzell AR-St.Gallen-Bodensee.

The three municipalities of Herisau, Teufen and Trogen have the greatest potential for coworking spaces. This was the result of a recent potential analysis by VillageOffice in Appenzell Ausserrhoden. A first coworking pilot project has therefore already been launched in Trogen, with Teufen and Herisau to follow, according to the Regio Appenzell AR-St.Gallen-Bodensee (Regio), a contact and impulse point for regional projects and initiatives. The Regio is supported in the project by the Canton of Appenzell-Ausserrhoden and accompanied by VillageOffice.
When the three coworkings will start operating depends on the respective local developments, according to Regio. Flexible timing is also necessary with regard to the Covid situation, it said. The association expects to be able to start with all three pilot operations within the next six months.
As local workplaces, coworking spaces can enliven everyday life in a municipality, increase the attractiveness of the location and contribute to relieving the burden on infrastructure, the analysis showed. The background: Around 18,000 people commuted to work every day from the 20 municipalities in Ausserrhoden, covering a distance of around 385,280 km. (tp)
