Wangen-Brüttisellen: Municipality approves Torfmatt project
The realization of 300 apartments by the real estate company Mobimo has come an important step closer.

The Torfmatt project has reached a milestone: the Wangen-Brüttisellen municipal assembly approved Mobimo's private design plan almost unanimously on March 18. With this positive decision, the project for the mixed-use district can now be further developed.
The Torfmatt district is being built on the former Erni site, between the village center of Brüttisellen and Dietlikon train station in the canton of Zurich. Mobimo purchased the site, which is located in the middle of a large development area, in 2021. The Torfmatt project will transform the industrial area of around 16,000 square meters, most of which is currently derelict, into a district with a mix of residential, commercial, office and retail space. A total of around 300 apartments ranging from 1.5 to 5.5 rooms are planned. In addition, around 5,000 square meters of new commercial space is to be created.
Mobimo particularly emphasizes the roof shape - «a reinterpretation of the pitched roof typology» - as characteristic of the eight buildings in the quarter. Inside the site, a green area is being created to ensure a high quality of stay and a wide variety of uses.
The Torfmatt project is the brainchild of architecture and urban planning firm KCAP and Zurich landscape architects Studio Vulkan. The duo emerged as the winners of a study contract with four planning teams in 2023. It has already been used in Mobimo's Aeschbachquartier in Aarau.
Staged realization
The Torfmatt district is being realized in three stages. The first stage comprises the first six buildings and therefore the largest part of the site. According to current plans, construction is scheduled to start in fall 2028 and be completed in spring 2031, with the other stages following thereafter.
