The Mövenpick Hotel Basel, designed as a business hotel in the premium segment, is part of the new Baloise Park built by the Baloise Group according to plans by the architects Miller & Maranta. The hotel is managed under the Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts brand by the Berlin-based HR Group as a franchisee of the Accor Group.
The 19-storey hotel has 234 rooms and 30 suites (20 junior suites, 9 suites, 1 presidential suite), a restaurant with show kitchen ("Puro") and a bistro with outdoor terrace (MP's Bistro & Bar) as well as a 240 square metre spa and fitness area. For congresses and events, the hotel offers a flexible event area of approximately 2,000 square meters (16 air-conditioned rooms) and a divisible ballroom, which allows festivities with up to 600 guests. "The location is not only of strategic importance for us - for Accor it is important to further promote the growth of the Mövenpick brand in Switzerland and to secure its strong position in the hotel market," says Duncan O'Rourke, CEO Accor Northern Europe.
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts currently operates five hotels with a total of 1,306 rooms in Switzerland: Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva, Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen, Mövenpick Hotel Lausanne, Mövenpick Hotel Zürich Airport and Mövenpick Hotel Zürich Regensdorf. Mövenpick Resort Savognin will join the portfolio as the brand's seventh hotel. (bw)
