After two years of renovation, Switzerland Tourism (ST) has now moved into its new headquarters in the Stadthalle in Zurich-Aussersihl.

The conversion of the building, which was built in 1906, into an office landscape preserved the unsupported arched ceiling, the stage arch, the original wall paintings and the later installed false floors, according to a statement from ST. Burkhalter Sumi Architects under the direction of Yves Schihin were responsible.

The wall paintings had been uncovered, conserved and partly restored. Their dominant colors of black, gold, gray and blue have served as inspiration for the color concept of the new Stadthalle: paints, floor coverings and furnishings are predominantly in these tones.

At the time of its opening in 1906, the Stadthalle was considered the largest meeting place in the city of Zurich and one of the very first public event venues in Switzerland. From 1949, the property was converted and used as a car garage. In 2016, the heirs of the builder, the Eser siblings, sold the Stadthalle to the Thurgau-based real estate company Nestor, which is part of the Hess Investment Group.

Hess Investment financed the conversion, and ST is moving into the new headquarters as a tenant. The tourism company has set up its offices on three floors. (ah)
