Basel: Replacement buildings on Riburgstrasse
In the Hirzbrunnen district of Basel, the Riburg housing cooperative is replacing its older properties on Riburgstrasse with new buildings.

The ground-breaking ceremony for a construction project by the Riburg housing cooperative was held at the end of June. The properties at Riburgstrasse 1-13, which date from the post-war period and can no longer be substantially renovated, will be replaced by new buildings with 59 cooperative apartments.
A project by the well-known Basel architectural firm Burckhardt+Partner is being realized. On the one hand, the housing mix adapts to changing housing needs and also allows for a gradual densification of the entire estate without jeopardizing the typical cooperative and neighbourhood character with the row buildings and courtyards in between. So
In the first construction phase, 23 more residential units will be built than before, with the focus on family apartments with 4.5 and 5.5 rooms. The Riburg housing cooperative emphasizes that rents will be well below the market rates in the surrounding area. The apartments in this first stage should be ready for occupancy in fall 2020.
