The area to the north of the Pratteln train station is one of the largest development sites in the Basel region. Together with investors, the municipality of Pratteln wants to turn former industrial and commercial sites there into mixed neighborhoods with residential and work uses. Up to 2,500 people should be able to settle here by 2030.

On the one hand, the former company sites of Buss and Rohrbogen are to be transformed into the Bredella settlement area, the municipality says. On the other hand, Logis Suisse will create a neighborhood with public open spaces and a new school complex and triple gymnasium with the Pratteln headquarters.

A total of 175,000 square meters of floor space is to be built on the 87,100-square-meter Bredella site in three stages over 20 years. A good two thirds of this will be reserved for residential use. There are also plans for buildings with public-oriented uses such as restaurants, hotels and retail, as well as office space and services. The site is owned by Bredella AG, which is backed by Hermann Alexander Beyeler. The project developer is HRS Real Estate, and the urban design is by Burkhardt + Partner from Basel.

The urban planning competition for the 43,000 sqm Central Pratteln site was won by the design of the Basel-based firm Bachelard Wagner Architekten and the landscape architects Raderschallpartner from Meilen. It envisages a neighborhood park of around 7,600 sqm in the midst of perimeter block development. The Shedhalle with Orangerie is to remain. Office and commercial uses are planned in the existing block and the sugar silo. A total of around 470 apartments are proposed.

According to a report by the Basel newspaper around CHF 800 million is to be invested in the projects. (ah)
