Einsiedeln plans overbuilding at Klosterplatz
The district of Einsiedeln wants to develop the Einsiedlerhof site in the Klosterplatz area with a mixed-use building. An investor or developer is now to be sought for this.

The district council of Einsiedeln wants to have a new building constructed on the Einsiedlerhof site in the Klosterplatz area. A mixed use for the administration, the Roman Catholic parish and private use for residential and commercial purposes is planned, according to a statement from the district council.
The focus is on the realization of the entire construction volume by an investor or a company. While the administrative area is to be built on district land, the district wants to cede the rest of the property to an investor.
In addition to rooms for administration, the district council also wants to locate school-related uses on the property, such as a kindergarten, school administration, school-related services or a music school. A public library is also to be built. The Roman Catholic parish of Einsiedeln is planning a parish center and has requested that the district council cede a share of the land on the Einsiedlerhof property.
A project is to be developed in the current year
According to the district council, the specific procedure, possible partners and the type of development are still open. It is hoped that a project and a proposal can be drawn up this year and presented to voters next year, according to the press release.
The Einsiedlerhof site has been the basis of projects and proposals by the district council, individual initiatives and political disputes for many years. Most recently, voters clearly rejected a transfer of the property to an investor who wanted to build a hotel there. In contrast, the idea of a mixed-use development involving the district administration is said to have received a relatively high level of public support.
The administration is currently housed in the historic town hall and Haus Raben as well as in private properties. However, some of the existing administrative buildings are no longer up to date and will require relatively high investments in the coming years, according to the district council. The historic town hall will continue to be used by the district - for example by the judiciary or Einsiedeln Tourism. Haus Raben, on the other hand, is to be sold.
