Zurich: Clear approval for the «Seebahnhöfe» project»
The referendum against the construction project, which envisages the construction of 350 new apartments and the demolition of an existing cooperative housing estate, failed very clearly in the Zurich referendum.

In Sunday's vote in the city of Zurich, 72% of voters approved the plans of the two cooperatives ABZ and BEP for the «Seebahnhöfe» development. Support was also very clear in districts 4 and 5 themselves, where the project is being realized, with a good 70% voting in favour. The turnout was 49 %.
A total of 350 affordable apartments are to be built, 80 more than in the existing development. The next step is to submit the design plan to the canton for approval. The planning applications are ready at ABZ and BEP.
The project was opposed by the Young Greens and the IG «Seebahnhöfe retten», supported by the AL. The opponents of the project argued that the small number of additional apartments did not justify the demolition of the existing complex from the 1920s. The municipal council's approval was granted in April (IB reported).
