A total of 2,566 apartments were completed in Zurich in 2022, which is 637 more than in the previous year and significantly more than in the previous three years. This is reported by the city of Zurich. The highest residential construction activity was recorded in the Altstetten, Wollishofen and Seebach districts, each with around 300 new apartments. A further 222 units were built in the Hard district.

1,422 new apartments, or more than half, were built by private companies, according to the city. The public sector completed no apartments in 2022 and the cooperatives only 359 units.

Accordingly, the number of apartments owned by private companies also increased (75,800 units, +16,1000). Due to the sharp rise in land prices in Zurich, private individuals and communities of heirs had increasingly sold their properties, mostly to private companies, the city explained the increase.
