One objection was received during the public consultation for the «Neue Freistatt» residential construction project. This is reported by the city of Thun. It has announced that the first demolition work will begin in September. After that, the first stage of construction of around 260 apartments can begin. The new public Lindenplatz square will be created at the intersection of Länggasse and Mattenstrasse. The area is not currently open to the public. A restaurant will be built on the site of the housing cooperative. In keeping with the «sponge city» principle, the well water will be used to irrigate the newly planted trees. The city has now submitted the planning application. Construction is scheduled to start in March 2028 and is expected to take three months.

The non-profit building and housing cooperative Freistatt and the Thun Municipal Pension Fund are behind the housing project on Länggasse. The concept includes a small post office and café. The site also includes a kindergarten and a daycare center. GBWG Freistatt will build around 160 apartments and the Thun Municipal Pension Fund around 100. (aw)
