Zurich: Opponents of the stadium project appeal to the Federal Supreme Court

The long back and forth surrounding the residential and stadium project on the Hardturm site has been extended by at least one more volte face.

The opponents of the stadium project do not accept the latest court ruling in favor of the project and are taking their case to the Federal Supreme Court. This was reported recently by «Tele Züri». A spokesperson for the Federal Supreme Court confirmed to SRF that a corresponding appeal had been received. This followed a ruling by the cantonal administrative court, which had ruled in favor of the project managers - a consortium led by construction group HRS (IB reported). In addition to a stadium, high-rise residential buildings are also to be built on the wasteland of the former Hardturm stadium. SRF predicts a long period of suffering for the project: «Once there is a legally binding design plan, the concrete construction project will be developed - and this can also be appealed to the Federal Supreme Court,» comments the medium.

The two football clubs FC Zurich and GC Zurich, HRS, Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Zurich, Stadionzüri AG and several UBS investment vehicles are behind the project on the Hardturm site. After the last ruling, the consortium known as «Projekt Ensemble» appealed to the opponents of the construction project to accept the legal situation established by the court and to cease their opposition.
