Claire's: Jewelry chain on the brink of extinction
Insolvency proceedings have begun for the US company, which also does business in Switzerland.

The parent company of international jewelry retailer Claire's has filed for bankruptcy protection in the USA. The company operates over 2,000 stores worldwide, currently 15 in Switzerland. While US media are reporting on the first closures, the company says it will continue to operate the stores for the time being and look for "strategic partners".
The target audience of the chain store, which also offers simple piercings, is primarily teenagers. The locations are often in high-traffic areas, and there is also a branch on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse and at the main railway station. According to the company, online competition, changing consumer behavior and the macroeconomic situation are the main reasons for this.
Seven years ago, the management of Claire's had to file for bankruptcy. According to media reports, US President Donald Trump's tariff policy is also putting the jewelry retailer under pressure, at least on the domestic market.
