C'est pourquoi les gens vivent et travaillent aujourd'hui en Suisse sur moins de surface par personne qu'il y a cinq ans. C'est la conclusion \u00e0 laquelle parvient la nouvelle statistique des zones \u00e0 b\u00e2tir de l'Office f\u00e9d\u00e9ral du d\u00e9veloppement territorial (ARE).<\/p>\n<p>En moyenne, un habitant a actuellement besoin de 282 m\u00b2 de surface de zone \u00e0 b\u00e2tir, contre 291 m\u00b2 il y a cinq ans et m\u00eame 309 m\u00b2 il y a dix ans. Selon l'ARE, les nouvelles constructions sont aujourd'hui plus grandes ou plus hautes afin d'utiliser davantage les zones \u00e0 b\u00e2tir. Cela vaut aussi bien pour les zones \u00e0 b\u00e2tir d\u00e9j\u00e0 construites que pour celles nouvellement construites. Au total, la surface des zones \u00e0 b\u00e2tir s'\u00e9l\u00e8ve cette ann\u00e9e \u00e0 234 000 hectares, soit seulement un pour cent de plus qu'en 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Le fait qu'il n'y ait pratiquement plus de cr\u00e9ation de nouvelles zones \u00e0 b\u00e2tir est avant tout d\u00fb \u00e0 l'am\u00e9nagement du territoire des cantons. Celui-ci prescrit aux communes de d\u00e9velopper leur urbanisation vers l'int\u00e9rieur et de densifier les constructions. Mais l'ARE constate qu'il existe encore des r\u00e9serves consid\u00e9rables de terrains \u00e0 b\u00e2tir. Pr\u00e8s de la moiti\u00e9 des zones \u00e0 b\u00e2tir actuellement non construites se trouvent dans des communes urbaines, un peu plus d'un quart dans des communes proches des villes et un quart
