In Gr\u00fcsch (GR), 52 rental apartments are being built in a historic mill building. The topping-out ceremony took place a few days ago. According to a statement from the developer, Gutgr\u00fcn AG, the project is the first in Switzerland to be awarded the DGNB certificate for sustainable building reconstruction. The certificate is awarded by the Swiss Sustainable Building Council (SGNI). The sustainability aspects taken into account in the construction of the apartments include the reuse of building materials after demolition.<\/p>\n

According to Gutgr\u00fcn, mainly recycled concrete from the dismantling of the old mill tower was used in the shell, with a proportion of between 75 and 95% depending on the component. On site, each component was inspected and tested for functionality, quality, statics, durability and harmful substances. Photovoltaic elements on the fa\u00e7ade are another plus point in terms of sustainability. All the fa\u00e7ades of the mill tower are equipped with photovoltaics. Most of the electricity produced will be used directly on site to operate the heat pumps and for household electricity. The yield generated could cover two thirds of the electricity consumption of the entire building.<\/p>\n
