The canton of Basel-Stadt is testing a re-use approach in residential construction. At Schliengerweg 31 in Kleinbasel, the canton is investing in a new building with six affordable apartments as well as a regular kindergarten and a special needs kindergarten on the first floor. The L'Eclisse project by the planning team Solanellas Van Noten Meister and Thomas Kohlhammer is being implemented. The canton writes in a press release that its functional, flexible floor plans and high proportion of reused building components were convincing.<\/p>\n

In order to build in the most environmentally friendly way possible, the competition participants were provided with a catalog of building materials from the demolition of properties. According to the canton, the winning team made intensive use of the offer and found creative solutions to reuse the components. For example, ribbed ceilings and supports from the demolition of the Lysb\u00fcchel parking lot will be used as the building's supporting structure, and used steel supports and railings will also be used. According to the canton, this means that only around half as much CO\u00b2 is required for the construction as for an average new building.<\/p>\n

A photovoltaic system will be installed on the fa\u00e7ade and roof, which will produce more electricity than is needed. As a result, the building will have a positive overall energy balance after seven years, according to the canton. (ah)<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
