In 2020, sales of photovoltaic systems rose to a new record level: At the end of 2020, solar panels with a capacity of almost 3 gigawatts were installed in Switzerland, covering 4.7 percent of Switzerland's electricity needs. This is an important step if Switzerland's energy supply is to be climate-neutral by 2050. After all, if fossil energy sources such as oil or gas disappear, the demand for electricity will increase - for example, for heat pumps or for electromobility.<\/p>\n

ZEV - producing and using electricity together<\/strong><\/p>\n

An ideal way to use solar power economically is to establish a Association for self-consumption (ZEV)<\/a>. Here, the owners of one or more buildings organize themselves to produce and consume solar electricity. Together, they act as one end user and have a single connection to the distribution grid.<\/p>\n

High self-consumption increases economic efficiency <\/strong><\/p>\n

The degree of self-consumption of a photovoltaic system averages just under 40 percent. With a ZEV, this value can be increased significantly. This is because the targeted control of consumers makes it possible to use a large part of the electricity on site. Another advantage is that the cost of solar power is lower than the electricity tariff for households. However, energy suppliers only pay a very low price for surplus electricity fed into the grid. Therefore, the higher the share of self-consumption and the lower the feed-in to the grid, the higher the profitability of the photovoltaic system.<\/p>\n

Sustainable quarter \"Cot\u00e9 Parc<\/strong><\/p>\n

As contractor, ewz has developed a comprehensive energy concept for \"Cot\u00e9 Parc\" that ensures a sustainable power supply and also includes the establishment of a ZEV.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For institutional investors such as insurance companies and pension funds, ewz offers a comprehensive range of services, from the establishment of a ZEV to its operation and consumption-based, individual billing. One example of this is the project \"Cot\u00e9 Parc\" in Geneva<\/a>where a sustainable neighborhood will be created by 2023. ewz is planning, financing, implementing and operating the energy infrastructure. To supply solar power, 776 photovoltaic panels with a total area of 1,300 square meters are installed on the roofs. With an output of around 290 kilowatt-peak, they will produce around 275,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year - around a quarter of the site's electricity requirements.<\/p>\n

Low cost solar power<\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to operate the plant economically and to be able to offer the solar power to the users at a reasonable price, the owners have founded a ZEV together with ewz. The solar electricity produced on site is offered by ewz at a price that is around one third cheaper than the normal grid tariff. In addition, ewz charges a lower price for grid electricity than the local electricity provider. Users therefore benefit not only ecologically from the self-generated solar energy, but also financially.<\/p>\n
