She takes over the building department from Cantonal Councillor Marc M\u00e4chler, who will in future head the finance department. M\u00e4chler can look back on an eventful past legislative term. During his four years in office, the electorate said yes to important building construction projects such as the Platztor campus for the University of St.Gallen or the renovation of the St.Gallen Theater. He was also strongly challenged in the areas of climate change and energy. Last but not least, Cantonal Government Councillor Marc M\u00e4chler successfully campaigned for the establishment of the Lake Constance metropolitan area.<\/p>\n<p>For Susanne Hartmann, the areas of activity and projects of the Building Department are not new territory. In her function as mayor of the town of Wils, she accompanied the development of the Wilwest site in close cooperation with the cantons of St. Gallen and Thurgau. Before her election as mayor, she then worked for five years as a construction lawyer in the civil engineering office of the construction department of the canton of Zurich.
