A new 100-meter high-rise building will contain commercial space and around 150 rental apartments with a view radius from Basel over the Upper Rhine to the Birs Valley, explains the investor CSA Real Estate Switzerland, an investment group of Credit Suisse Investment Foundation.  In addition, the total renovation of an existing building complex is planned, which currently houses offices and a vocational school. The construction of the high-rise building is expected to cost around CHF 100 million, with a further CHF 60 million budgeted for the refurbishment work.<\/p>\n<p>The high-rise building has a striking curved shape and was designed by architect Prof. Harry Gugger. Starting from a triangular ground plan, the structure becomes rectangular towards the top.<\/p>\n<p>The building is to become a new landmark for the canton of Basel-Landschaft, writes the municipality of M\u00fcnchenstein in a statement. With its 100 meters, the Spengler Tower would currently be the fourth tallest building in Switzerland - next to the Prime Tower in Zurich, the Basel Messeturm and Roche's Bau 1.<\/p>\n<p>\"Spenglerpark, with its excellent accessibility by public transport, is an ideal location for inner development in the sense of the current spatial planning law,\" says architect Gugger. The municipality further states that the current open and green spaces on the site are to be upgraded for non-motorized traffic thanks to public thoroughfares and networked connections. The parking garage will be a collective parking lot in the future; in the medium term, the expansion of the streetcar capacities is also planned.<\/p>\n<p>The neighborhood plan for the project has been submitted, and formal participation will begin on May 2. In September, the community assembly is expected to approve the neighborhood plan, which then has to be approved by the government council of the canton of Basel-Landschaft. If everything goes smoothly, construction work can begin in 2021\/2022.
