The surf park is to be built adjacent to the Wisacher sports facility in Regensdorf. Its centerpiece is a large water pool with a wave generator - according to the initiators, it would be Europe's first surf facility suitable for competitions. In addition, the park is to offer bathing lagoons, beach volleyball courts, opportunities for boulder climbing, a mountain bike track and a skate facility. According to the initiators, they want to realize \"the most beautiful recreation park in Switzerland\".<\/p>\n

The total investment volume is estimated at CHF 25 to 30 million. Of this, 13 to 16 million is to be raised from private and institutional investors, with further funds to come in particular from subsidies and marketing partnerships. The Waveup association, which is behind the planning, says it is also open to a different investment model from a main investor. To date, 30 percent of the money needed to finance the project has been secured.<\/p>\n

In mid-October, a public information event was held in Regensdorf regarding the BZO proposals. This is because a rezoning will be necessary for the surf park project. According to the municipality, the necessary change in the structure plan was already determined by the government of the Canton of Zurich in May 2018. Whether the planned building land of 52,000 square meters, which is currently in the agricultural zone, will become a recreation zone and the existing Leematten recreation zone will be added to the agricultural zone as compensation, is expected to be decided by voters on March 25, 2019. If the vote is positive, the building application can be submitted. Construction would then start in summer 2019 and the facility would open in summer 2020.<\/p>\n

The association Waveup, which initiates the surf park, is, according to its own information, one of the largest surf clubs in Switzerland.
