The WBG Zielacker housing estate consists of four rows of houses with a total of 31 apartments, which were occupied in the 1950s. Now the houses are in urgent need of renovation. According to the WBG, a costly total refurbishment is not economically viable; replacement buildings are a more sustainable solution.<\/p>\n

Last fall, a project competition was launched for the building project in the Langdorf district to the northeast of Frauenfeld's old town. Six architectural firms from Frauenfeld and Zurich submitted their proposals by February 2018, and in March the jury selected the winning project, which has now also been presented to the public. Criteria included a good mix with different apartment sizes, an increased density of use, urban planning quality and efficient construction with ecologically sound materials according to the Minergie-ECO standard.<\/p>\n

The winning project \"Katharina\" by Mirlo Urbano Architects envisages a development of three winding rows of houses and a single building, which fits into the surrounding hillside. A total of 49 apartments with 2.5 to 5.5 rooms will be built. Each apartment is equipped with a balcony or seating area, and is heated by geothermal energy and solar panels on the roof. In addition, craft rooms, parking spaces and storage areas for bicycles and baby carriages will be integrated into the development.<\/p>\n

Now the cooperative must approve the \"Katharina\" project at its general meeting and approve the project planning credit. Then the next planning steps will be initiated.
