Migros President Ursula Nold has announced an opening offensive in an interview with the newspaper «Schweiz am Wochenende». She said that 140 new stores are to be built by 2029. «This is the biggest expansion the company has ever carried out in such a short space of time,» said Nold. Migros is focusing on smaller formats in terms of space. The food retailer is thus adapting to changes in shopping behavior. Consumers are tending towards smaller and more frequent purchases, for example after work.

At Migros, the past year was characterized by major restructuring. With the divestment of several specialist store commitments, the retail group abandoned a strategy of diversification it had pursued for years. Most recently, Migros sold its DIY stores and ended a cooperation with the organic chain Alnatura. The focus is now to be placed more strongly on the core business again. (aw)
