According to the Official Gazette of the Canton of Bern, the investors in the planned hotel complex in Wengen (municipality of Lauterbrunnen) have withdrawn their planning application. Several objections had been lodged against the project (IB reported). According to a report in the "Berner Zeitung", the local heritage society also raised concerns about the project. However, municipal president Karl Näpflin told the daily newspaper that he hoped the withdrawal of the planning application would not mean the end of the project. The municipality had given the developers tips for a successful process.

The client of the project, which was launched under the name "W5 Luxury Suite Hotel", is SPM Immo GmbH, based in Zug. In the planning application, the construction costs were stated as CHF 85 million, while media reports speak of a "100 million project". According to earlier information, the hotel complex in the 5-star segment will comprise seven buildings with over 200 beds and 44 serviced apartments as well as a wellness area. (aw)
