French sporting goods retailer Decathlon has announced the opening of a further four stores in Zurich, Geneva and Basel. In addition, a store in Collombey (VS) will be moved to a new location. With the four new stores, Decathlon is increasing its presence throughout Switzerland to a total of 53 locations. There are also plans to open up to ten new Decathlon stores in Switzerland by the end of 2026. Decathlon has set a long-term expansion target of 100 stores in this country.

Largest opening in Zurich-Altstetten

On April 8, a Decathlon branch is to open in the Letzipark shopping center in Zurich-Altstetten. The leased sales area amounts to 1,500 square meters. The center is currently being completely modernized on all levels and is due to celebrate its official completion in autumn. Decathlon will then open its fifth store in Geneva on April 15. In the Planète Charmilles shopping center, the company is focusing on its compact «city store» concept on 450 m². Another week later, the store at Greifengasse 23 in Basel is due to open. The «City Store» concept will also be implemented here, but on three floors with over 800 square meters. Finally, on May 6, Decathlon will open another «City Store» with 150 square meters at Geneva Airport.

Collombey: relocation on the same site

The aforementioned relocation in Collombey will take place on April 1. Decathlon is moving the location of its store there by a few meters. The store is moving out of the «Collombey Center» building, but will remain in the same area. According to the company, the new location directly next to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) will be much easier to reach. There will be direct access from the main road and around 50 parking spaces directly in front of the store.

Decathlon opened a total of nine new stores in 2025. The 49th and so far last one opened at the end of November in Interlaken.
