A referendum on the "Unterfeld Schleife" development plan is to be held in February 2017. The planned development is one of the largest construction projects in the canton of Zug.

A mixed-use urban quarter for residential, commercial, services, leisure and recreation is to be created in Unterfeld. The project comprises a block-like development with 15 buildings. The basic height of the buildings is 25 meters, with six increases to 34 to 60 meters possible at certain points. A large public park with a lake is planned in the center; the first floors of the development are intended for public-oriented businesses.

The large-scale project affects two municipalities: One third of the 5.5-hectare site is in the city of Zug, the rest in the municipality of Baar. The landowner in the city of Zug is the Zug Corporation, which wants to build affordable housing.

A majority of the parliament in Zug was of the opinion that the people should vote on this project and agreed to the so-called authority referendum with 25 votes. It is expected that the municipalities of Zug and Baar will vote on the building project at the ballot box on February 12, 2017. For the development plan to become legally binding, the approval of both municipalities is required. (ah)
