The voters of the city of Zug have clearly approved the Metalli development plan with a 57.8 % majority. The «Lebensraum Metalli» project has thus reached an important milestone after several years of planning, including an urban planning competition and various consultation procedures. The project comprises 130 additional apartments, 64 of which are affordable. Part of the planning is a public, park-like roof terrace. The new Metalliplatz is intended to improve the connection to Zug railroad station.

As a next step, Zug Estates is organizing an architectural competition for the high-rise building and the adjoining outdoor spaces. The development plan is not expected to be approved by the Canton of Zug until the end of 2026 at the earliest.

The development plan provides for almost half of the building along Baarerstrasse to be demolished. The southern part of the building along Baarerstrasse will be raised like other buildings in the development plan perimeter and a building up to 80 m high will be built along Baarerstrasse. The positioning of the high-rise building follows the high-rise regulations of the city of Zug.
