Andermatt: Construction start for the sports zone draws closer

With the further development of the sports zone, Andermatt Swiss Alps AG is concretizing a central component of the vision for Andermatt. The offer of the sports center already envisaged in the 2008 master plan will be significantly broader than originally planned

With the further development of the sports zone, ASA Andermatt Swiss Alps AG is planning a comprehensive offer with climbing, fitness, yoga, leisure center with restaurant, kids club, bowling, family pool with outdoor pool, 25-meter pool, spa, padel courts, an outdoor ice rink and event space instead of the initially planned simple indoor pool with fitness room. The planned floor space has been expanded from around 2,300 to around 5,000 square meters. The new sports center completes the existing range of indoor, family and bad weather facilities in Andermatt.

The sports zone on which the new center will be located is intended as a sports village square that connects Andermatt Dorf and Andermatt Reuss both spatially and socially - which is why Samih Sawiris, CEO of Andermatt Swiss Alps AG, sees the project as an «important milestone in the overall development of Andermatt». The operating company is to be jointly supported by ASA and the municipality of Andermatt and will be founded at the same time as the building application announced for the coming weeks. If everything goes according to plan, construction should start in 2027 and the opening should take place in 2032/33.
