Basel: Foundation stone laid for new Roche building
The 72-meter-high building is set to cost 500 million Swiss francs and was designed by Herzog & de Meuron.

The pharmaceutical company Roche recently laid the foundation stone for the «Building 12» research and development building in Basel. The company is investing CHF 500 million in the new building at its headquarters, which is due to be completed by 2029. Up to 450 researchers will work in the building and will be deployed in the early phases of drug development.
According to Roche, it has invested around CHF 8 billion in the renewal of its Swiss sites since 2015. «According to the company, »Building 12» should be seen as a further commitment to the Basel site. The exterior design is based on the façade of «Building 6», the research and development center opened last year, and with its height of around 72 meters, it blends into the existing high-rise structure of the site.
Roche estimates the building area on 15 floors at 32,200 square meters. Herzog & de Meuron, who have already designed the city's two tallest high-rise buildings, «Building 1» and «Building 2», for Roche, are responsible for the architectural design. (aw)
