Zurich: 28 municipal retirement apartments on the Espenhof site
The Retirement Homes Foundation (SAW) will soon start letting the residential units, which will be occupied in May.

In November, the City of Zurich Retirement Homes Foundation will start letting a new building on the Espenhof site in Albisrieden. A total of 28 new age-appropriate apartments will be built there. The new building will replace 23 existing retirement apartments. Occupancy of the 1.5 and 2.5-room units is planned for May 2026.
The Foundation for Retirement Living estimates the expected rents at CHF 1,330 to 1,930 including ancillary costs. A special architectural feature of the building is a «rue intérieure», which runs through the entire building and is intended to create an internal connection with niches, seating areas and two shared balconies.
The new replacement building is located on the site of the SAW Espenhof housing estate from the 1950s. The associated Espenhof-Süd part of the estate was renovated in 2021, while the new replacement building for Espenhof-Nord is currently under construction.
