Zurich: "Mama Shelter" hotel chain in Switzerland for the first time
Not far from Oerlikon station, the Accor subsidiary is opening in a converted high-rise building owned by a real estate fund.

Accor has opened a hotel in its "Mama Shelter" chain at Schulstrasse 44 in Zurich-Oerlikon. The property belongs to the former CS fund Real Estate Fund Hospitality, which initiated the renovation and conversion of the high-rise building under the project name "Oerlikon One". The hotel, which has 178 rooms, opened at the end of July. It is the first hotel of its kind in Switzerland and the 19th worldwide and includes a restaurant, a landscaped terrace, a bar, a ballroom, coworking areas, boules courts, table tennis, pinball machines and a fitness room.
The concept for the chain comes from Serge Trigano, one of the co-founders of Club Med. "The brutalism that characterizes the architecture of Oerlikon is given a playful, colourful and cheerful interpretation at Mama Shelter," writes Accor in a press release. The interior is colorful and playful, full of references to Switzerland and Swiss clichés. The flexibly configurable event areas cover 80 to 260 square meters. (aw)
