Graubünden: Mountain railroads buy hotel as staff accommodation

Bergbahnen Lenzerheide AG has acquired the "Bestzeit" hotel in Parpan to accommodate employees and is pursuing a construction project on a parking lot. However, another residential construction project has been postponed.

Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG has acquired the former "Bestzeit" hotel in Parpan. According to a press release, this is to be used as staff accommodation. The property comprises 32 residential units and offers space for the creation of further staff apartments. A study has now been commissioned to investigate the potential. "LBB's housing requirements are not yet covered by the best of times and investing in additional housing for staff remains a priority," it says.

Another project involves the creation of residential space on the Canols parking lot in Lenzerheide. For several years now, an investor has been planning various shell uses with over 600 parking spaces and over 170 residential units for staff. The apartments could be marketed to tourists in summer. However, the mountain railroads want to postpone the extension of the Rothorn valley station in Lenzerheide, where 25 residential units were to be built. The costs for the realization of the extension, including the structural reinforcement of the existing building, had proved to be very high. With the "Bestzeit" hotel, more finished living space with additional expansion potential was acquired at a significantly lower cost. The project at the valley station and the necessary rezoning had already been approved by the people of Vaz/Obervaz in 2024. "The rezoning is therefore not unnecessary and still offers the possibility of a later or different realization on this site," write the mountain railroads. (aw)
