The Zurich University of Teacher Education (PHZH) and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) are to be given new locations due to an increase in student numbers. According to a decision by the cantonal government of Zurich, an additional location will be designated for each of the two schools in the cantonal structure plan. The decision is also intended to increase "the previously unsatisfactory proportion of land owned". For the PHZH, the canton has earmarked a reserve of land on Max-Frisch-Platz directly next to Oerlikon station (construction site D14). This plot is currently only being used provisionally and is to be developed for the PHZH. The location at Oerlikon station is ideal, as it is the second-busiest station in the canton with ten S-Bahn lines. For the ZHAW, the remaining space in the construction area II in the Hohlstrasse area next to the police and justice center is planned in the medium term. The location is very suitable for the ZHAW as it is within walking distance of Hardbrücke station and in the immediate vicinity of the streetcar and bus stops at Hardplatz. (aw)
