Zurich: On opens production in the city center
The Swiss sports shoe manufacturer has recently fully automated the production of upper materials for running shoes in a property in Zurich-West.
The Swiss sports brand On has opened a production site in Zurich. With the fully automated production of running shoes using robots, the company is bringing traditional shoe production back to Zurich, according to a press release. With four robots, On is able to "produce the entire upper material for performance running shoes fully automatically and industrially scalable directly in Switzerland for the first time". Additional global production sites are reportedly being planned.
Under the brand name "Light Spray", On has launched a technology for manufacturing performance face materials in a one-step, fully automated production process. According to On, conventional manufacturing methods required around 200 steps at various locations. Now, using a robotic arm and a 1.5 km long filament, a one-piece shoe upper can be produced in just three minutes. The process saves space, time and emissions.
The production site in Zurich is the property at Förrlibuckstrasse 190, which belongs to the real estate company PSP Swiss Property. (aw)
