A new construction project with 96 care places and 130 apartments for the elderly is to be built on the Thurgauerstrasse site in Zurich. Boa Architektur GmbH and Studio Mofa GmbH BSLA from Zurich won the architectural competition for the joint project between the Health Centers for the Elderly and the City of Zurich Retirement Homes Foundation (SAW).

A school and a neighbourhood park have already been built on the site. The new construction project with retirement apartments is planned for the southern part of area A. A 22-storey high-rise building with a public restaurant on the first floor is to be built. Photovoltaic modules on the roof and façade as well as a green façade will ensure sustainability. The heat supply for this new building in accordance with the Minergie-P-ECO standard will be provided by district heating and a geothermal probe field.

According to the jury report, the winning project outperformed the other projects in terms of both sustainability parameters and construction costs. Construction work is expected to begin in 2029. (aw)
