Basel: Canton wants to move into the "main post office"
A report by SRF has revealed plans by the Presidential Department to occupy office space in the property. The property is owned by Axa AST and is currently being modernized.

The public sector is planning to rent office space in Basel's "Hauptpost" refurbishment project. This was first reported by SRF Regionaljournal and the canton of Basel-Stadt confirmed the information to several media outlets. According to the report, five offices of the Presidential Department, which are currently spread across the city, want to move into the upper floors on Rüdengasse. The current locations of the Presidential Department include Marktplatz, Münzgasse and Binningerstrasse.
Since the report was published, the plans have been the subject of controversial public debate in Basel. The historic building in a prime location in the old town, which is currently being extensively redesigned according to plans by the internationally acclaimed architects Herzog & de Meuron, is considered a prestigious address. However, according to the SRF radio report, letting has been "difficult" so far.
The property belongs to the Axa Investment Managers investment foundation. The company has announced a press release on the letting status of the main post office. According to the company, this is expected at the end of the month. The mandate for marketing the office space lies with CBRE.
