The Zurich City Council has approved the partial revision of the city's building and zoning regulations (BZO) for the "Stüdli" settlement on Hohlstrasse.

The adjustment creates the basis for the construction of new non-profit apartments, an after-school care center, a kindergarten and three new open spaces in the area. In particular, a new replacement building with a total of 151 apartments can now be built. It will be realized by the Gemeinnützige Bau- und Mietergenossenschaft Zürich (GBMZ).

The existing GBMZ "Stüdli" housing estate in Zurich-Aussersihl dates from 1932 and comprises 142 small apartments. The new construction is intended to remedy deficits in noise protection, handicapped accessibility and housing mix. 20 % of the apartments will be subsidized. GBMZ developed its project based on a neighborhood mission statement (2010), a feasibility study (2018) and a competition (2019). (aw)
