The high-rise building of the Swiss Museum of Transport (SMT) is currently used as an office building. Now it is to be renovated to make it more energy-efficient, and other uses are to be made possible. Discussions are currently underway between the Museum of Transport, the City of Lucerne and Lucerne Youth Hostel with the aim of the Youth Hostel moving into the building at some point in the future. If this is not possible, the city of Lucerne says that the Museum of Transport is seeking an alternative use for the hotel.

In order to enable an accommodation business in the high-rise building under zoning law, the building and zoning regulations must be amended and the site must be rezoned from the zone for public purposes to a special zone. The rezoning will also define the maximum heights. The public consultation period runs from 27 September to 18 October 2021. (ah)
