The area of the former 3er streetcar loop at Burgfelderstrasse 251, not far from the border to France, is to be redeveloped. A residential building with about 32 apartments is planned, which will be made available by the social welfare for assisted and disadvantaged groups of people. The first floor of the new building will accommodate a double kindergarten and a day structure.

The general planning team of Ballmoos Partner Architekten won the open project competition for the project. In connection with the carefully and differentiatedly designed outdoor spaces, the authors succeeded in creating "an architecturally and urbanistically very convincing contribution to the construction of a new social, ecological and affordable residential building," according to the jury. In addition to the apartments, office uses are also planned for the second floor. These are organized in such a way that, if necessary, conversion into residential space would be readily possible. The listed streetcar waiting hall on the site is to be preserved. (ah)
