How among other things The Covenant reportsGfeller am Bärenplatz, Brasserie Chez Edy and Plattform Restaurants will close at the end of 2019 due to the massive renovation needs of the buildings, the newspaper writes, citing a media release from the operator Gfeller am Bärenplatz AG. The owners' association of 16 parties had proven too cumbersome to tackle the necessary renovation work.

The three buildings are interconnected across all floors. The restaurants are located on the first floors and offices and apartments on the upper floors.

Christian Gfeller, operator of the three restaurants and one of the co-owners, told the newspaper that the properties were sold to PSP Swiss Property retroactively to January 1, 2019. It says it plans a total renovation starting in spring 2020 and lasting until mid-2021. The detailed utilization concept for the property is not yet ready for decision.

The Gfeller on Bärenplatz was founded 128 years ago and was one of the oldest eateries in Bern. Brasserie Chez Edy is known for fresh mussels, and the platform restaurants have themed show kitchens. (ah)
