The city council of Baden (AG) has approved the planning application for the new hospital building, no complaints were raised. The "Agnes" project by architects Nickl & Partner can now be implemented.

The new KSB building will be seven storeys high.

Over the next few weeks, the "protected operations site", a bunker with meter-thick walls dating back to the Cold War, will be dismantled. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new seven-storey KSB building is scheduled for August 31, 2018. According to KSB's plans, the construction work will take around four years.

The current hospital building, which was opened 40 years ago, will then be demolished. When it opened in 1978, the then chief surgeon described the 13-storey building as "the most beautiful hospital in Switzerland", but now it is becoming increasingly difficult to reconcile the requirements of modern healthcare with the organizational structure of the 1970s, according to the KSB. As a renovation would be almost as expensive as a new building, the hospital has opted for a new building.

The "Agnes" project is the most important part of the KSB's modernization. However, important construction projects have already been completed in recent years, such as the Kubus day clinic and the Partnerhaus, which opened at the beginning of 2018.
