Helvetia plans "Zur Weinlese" development in Winterthur

Helvetia Insurance is planning the "Zur Weinlese" development on the former site of the Volg wineries in Winterthur-Veltheim. By 2020, more than 120 apartments as well as commercial space and studios will be built in a central location in Winterthur's Blumenau district.

Helvetia Insurance is the new owner of the former site of the Volg wineries in Winterthur-Veltheim. The project is called "Zur Weinlese", named after the mural "Weinlese" by Swiss artist Heinrich Danioth, which has adorned the facade of the warehouse at Feldstrasse 16 since 1943. The Winterthur architectural firm Beat Rothen has drawn up a detailed construction project. Landscape architects Rotzler Krebs Partner, also based in Winterthur, were commissioned to design the surroundings. Helvetia has awarded the contract for the construction to the Winterthur company BW Generalbau.

Round and tower building remain and are integrated

A superstructure is being built on the approximately 8,000-square-meter site that aims to integrate new buildings into existing structures: Thus, the north-facing circular building with its striking tower will be preserved and create a variety of possible uses. In addition to apartments and commercial space, studios are also planned here. The listed sgraffito "Weinlese" (Vintage) will also be preserved in the new development and will be used even more effectively in the future as a point of identification for the settlement.

In the southern part of the site, two rows of houses are being built. They offer space for 122 apartments with 1.5 to 4.5 rooms. "The "zur Weinlese" development takes into account the existing structures and enriches the range of attractive apartments and commercial space at fair rental prices in Veltheim," says Daniel Wehrli, Head of Real Estate East at Helvetia Insurance. Between the two new rows of houses, a courtyard garden is being created along the lines of the "Pergola Ticinese".

Building application will be submitted shortly according to Helvetia Versicherungen

Helvetia will submit the building application for the superstructure next February. The building permit is expected - depending on the approval process - in fall 2017. Demolition work would then begin in January 2018 and take around two years. First occupancy will be in spring 2020 at the earliest, Wehrli said.
