Groundbreaking ceremony for Bözberg tunnel

The ground-breaking ceremony for the new Bözberg tunnel was held on March 9. As the existing Bözberg tunnel is not suitable for four-meter tunnels, a new 2.7-kilometre-long double-track tube is being bored in parallel.

The old tunnel will be used as a service and rescue tunnel in future. Implenia was awarded the contract for the new tunnel by SBB in summer 2015. Excavation work on the tunnel will start in summer 2016 and is expected to last until mid-2020. (ah)
