Alnatura: End sealed for Swiss organic supermarkets

Following the withdrawal of Migros, there is no successor solution for the chain's 25 stores. Migros apparently wants to move into some of the spaces itself.

The German organic supermarket chain Alnatura has decided to close its 25 stores in Switzerland. This follows the announcement by Migros Zurich that it was withdrawing from the joint venture with Alnatura. The Germans were unable to find a new partner to continue running the stores under the franchise model. So now the Alnatura stores will cease trading at the end of the year. "Irrespective of this, Migros is continuously expanding the Alnatura range in its stores", a statement said.

Alnatura and Migros Zurich had been working together since 2012 as part of a franchise agreement. Alnatura does not intend to take over the operation of the stores itself. "Individual succession solutions are being sought for the store areas, both within and outside the Migros community," writes Alnatura.

The chain's supermarkets are located in Baden, Basel (Gerbergasse and Kirschgarten), Berne (Aarbergergasse Bärenplatz, Scheibenstrasse), Bülach Sonnenhof, Lucerne, Meilen, Solothurn, Stäfa, St. Gallen, Thalwil, Uster, Wädenswil, Winterthur (Grüze and Neuwiesen), Zug (Metalli), Zurich (Höngg, Kreuzplatz, Limmatplatz, Löwenstrasse, Niederdorf, Oerlikon Bauhof, Passage Sihlquai Hauptbahnhof).
