First hurdle for the conversion of "La Margna
On September 13, the municipality of St. Moritz will vote on the rezoning of the hotel "La Margna" into a new hotel zone. The rezoning is necessary so that the historic hotel near the St. Moritz train station can be extensively renovated and expanded.
The necessary rezoning to a hotel zone has now been approved by the St. Moritz municipal council for the referendum. After acceptance in the referendum, the cantonal government must still approve the rezoning. After that, a building application is to be submitted immediately, according to a media release. Construction work could begin in spring 2016. A partial opening of the new hotel before the 2017 World Ski Championships is being considered; the entire operation should open at the end of 2017, according to a media release. The "La Margna" belongs to the hotel group Grace Hotels. It wants to run the house as a boutique hotel. (ah)
